When simmons, jannace & stagg, a law firm from New York, represented a young woman pro bono, the case garnered a lot of interest. The woman, Ms. Burpee was disqualified by an Australian referee on a procedural technicality during the trials in Minnesota. After her disqualification, Ms. Burpee asked the firm to intercede on her behalf to have the disqualification overturned. In addition, Ms. Burpee requested that the firm commence an action against the United States Olympic Committee requiring the committee to name her to the Olympic Team. Eventually an arbitrator did not rule in her favor, but she continues to compete and will do so in the World Championships in the next year.
